Moods are strange things, aren't they? They move in on waves of their own making, and rock or sink the boat as they choose. I'm endlessly fascinated by whatever subterranean currents set my boat to rocking this way and that, but I also know that one person's mood can affect another's.
For instance, political analysts will talk about 'the mood of the country'- and likewise, there's a mood of the workplace which changes day to day, a mood of a household, a church- moods spread like wildfire sometimes. I know that if I have a particularly light mood I'm moving within- one, say- with 'music' in it- and although the atmosphere around me may be heavy and dark and at first, only I can hear a mandolin playing softly in the middle of the crowd

after a while and little by little, the music may spread. May touch others who come in contact with me, and soon

the whole atmosphere becomes one of music, everyone playing their own strains on their own private guitars. It lifts us. Unites us. Mood is magic.
It can transform gloom

into something quite different. Something that comes about through mood alone, and transforms the creepy, dark places of the heart into wondrous lagoons full of mystery and attraction.

Loneiness can become a creative space instead of marooning you from your fellow men- it can become a pocket of energy- and this happens when mood suddenly alters. We can do this for ourselves. We can do this for those around us, too. How many of you know certain individuals whose entrance onto the scene will brighten any situation? The opposite is true of course, but keeping this in mind, it's imperative to be aware of the way our mood can influence others...be a powerhouse. Be the switch thrown that turns the colored lights on the stage. Wherever you go, be mindful of mood because it's the genie in the bottle, so pay attention to what you let out of it: it will spread- for good or ill.
We are, all of us, much more empowered than we think- and we can alter things. Mood is one of those ephemerals that do so much while operating under the surface. Pay attention. We're holding rockets- and we're holding guitars. Be mindful of what you release into the world, for we all hold sway. We have the ability to turn a thing on its ear- or to make it dance by the power of mood alone. Mood is the pheromone of human atmosphere- but we're in charge if we're aware of what it's doing. Grab those reins.

I have lots of stuff to share with you today! (The weather is cooler, beautiful.....the evening is perfect, and the mind is alert, so why not?) First of all, let me tell you about the strange moths I've seen at work. A while back on this blog, I talked about seeing my first ever LUNA MOTH while on a smoke break at work. That was a revelation to me.....sooooooo beautiful! And just in this past week, I have also seen two beauties that sent me running to Google images to try and identify them. Here they are- (and they both hung out on the same section of brick wall, right near the back door. Lord knows what they find there, but they both stayed motionless for about an hour on two different days.)

Small Eyed Sphinx Moth

Giant Leopard Moth
Aren't they terrific? Wow.....I think of 'moths' and I immediately think of the little white ones we call "Millers", who get into the sweaters and eat holes in them, but oh my goodness, there are so many varieties-- and so LARGE and lovely! So that perked up my week. :)
And then there is a co-worker who is a bit of a globe-trotter, and I just admire people who will pick up and fly someplace, simply because they always wanted to see it. (There's LOTS of places I'd like to see, but I'm afraid of airplanes. LOL!!!) Darlene has been to Hawaii, Ireland, England- visited the Epcot Center, the Bahamas and Niagra Falls-- the prettier, Canadian side-- I think we might all be in agreement on that- and guess what? I've seen........yep........Niagara Falls. 3 times. That's it folks. I've been to a few of these United States (very few), but Darlene whisks around like a butterfly and just this spring took a lovely trip to Ireland.
I kept begging her for pictures, and she has a website! So if you want to get a glimpse of what this lady has seen with her own eyeballs

CLICK on that lovely small, thatched hut- one of her photos from a visit to Bunratty Castle. (Oooo....doesn't that sound neat?) But don't stop there. Click on 'Home' at the bottom of the page for a photo-tour of those other beautiful places. What a broad view of life on this planet she's had..... and me......I talk to Darlene at the back dumpster- both of us jawing and laughing and grabbing a smoke. She's my 'dumpster buddy'. Hey.....better standing outside of it than in it, right? Enjoy your tour.

So what is in store for today? Get out your kleenex, make sure you have a player on your system that can play back MP3 files, and download this one...

If you don't actually tear up- the way I did when I first listened to this, you'll be deeply moved. Wasn't she just remarkable? What a song. Oh My. I'd put more details here, but then I'd have the internet patrol on my behind.
You'll know who she is.......She's gone now.
