Bad, bad weather was predicted for Saturday, so Wayne and I decided to burrow in and keep to our own respective abodes. (Of course given the whimsical nature of weather, none of the predicted ice/snow/accumulation happened....lol...so it was a day of serious sleeping.) Friday night I babysat for Bill and Kay and watched 'Tinkerbell' and 'Star Wars: Clone War'-- with Bill acting out all parts in front of the TV while the DVD was playing, complete with his own sound effects- (that's the Clone War, not Tinkerbell) so I got to see three movies.

I did rent "The Painted Veil"- upon the recommendation of my buddy Netto, but so far have only been fiddling on the computer....I may watch it later. (Saturdays I am wont to stay up late and do the night owl dance, flapping my wings and who-ing- through a good deal of the night.)

And tomorrow this evening.....

THE ACADEMY AWARDS- whereby all good films are judged. (I haven't watched it in years. The older I get, the less important what is considered to be 'the best' anything-- including films-- becomes.) And my tastes are prickly. I resent being told what is good by any determining body- and usually my own ideas are very different from the accepted opinion of a thing's merit.)

What I do miss is the anticipation of watching the Oscars. Memories of that make me homesick for childhood- when 'Oscar Night' was a really big deal, and something I shared with my friend, Annette.

So I feel like a girl staring longingly out a window

at another place, another time, and although my mind has a crisp recollection of what it felt like to be there, I can't return to it.

That's life, right? The mind keeps all the treasures, and sometimes they rattle and clink in their chest, reminding us of the things that were riches once- even if time has dulled the silver.

Anyway.......I do hope Philip Seymour Hoffman wins....

He's the king!....had me at 'hello' as the line goes. From the first time I saw him on-screen, riveting. Never a performance anything less than stunning, ever. He's replaced Richard Burton in my current list of actors to watch, meaning he has the top spot.... absolutely.

Though the snow was predicted for Saturday but never showed, it actually did sweep through yesterday just as I was driving home from mum's. Luckily I caught just the beginnings of it but there was nearly an inch on the roads when I pulled (slid) into the carport at 7 p.m. last evening.

Since my television only gets a grainy Channel 11, and the Academy Awards were on 2, the possibility of watching or not had been decided for me. LOL!! No Awards yesterday, just a nice white coat

- and a very Oscar-worthy one at that. I did read this morning that Heath Ledger won for 'The Dark Knight'- not Hoffman. Personal tragedy seems to attract a posthumous Ocsar like a magnet does metal, so it's really no surprise, though a disappointment. As to the winning picture, I don't think I'll be watching 'Slum Dog Millionaire' anytime soon. The plot line of the film just doesn't catch me. I will be watching 'Nixon/Frost', 'Milk', 'The Visitor', 'Doubt' and 'The Wrestler'-- those are more to my taste.

Just as a postscript here: I find it interesting that in a year of economic decline worldwide, wouldn't you know a movie about an instant millionaire seems to have caught the collective unconscious in a big way. I don't think that's coincidental...I think it's simple wish-fulfillment and typical 'Hollywood'- (or Bollywood, as the case may be)- and yes, I'll pass on that one. Anyway.....Phillip, Mickey....nice work guys. Better luck next time.

Sometimes you just see a picture and you connect with something inside it. Often what you're looking at is a picture of yourself, translated of course-- by an inner graphics designer who recognizes immediately that the thing you're looking at 'is you'-- 'right then'.

Yep. That little lost looking thing just reached out of the screen and spoke to me. That's me with no projects to jump into, nothing pressing to occupy my brain and it's the relief, but also the 'let down' of having rescued and restored my old computer along with 98 percent of my personal graphic and sound files....it was a big job, and I bulldozed at it for a week and now that's it's done.....poof!....that head full-of-steam is missing and there's nothing to replace it. LOL!!

I feel hollowed out- done in...and rather than just enjoying the lull...........I mull.

What a silly old, lost little orangutang I am. Maybe I killed off too many brain cells in trying to restore my computer's....(that would explain a lot.) Early to bed once again, book in hand-- sandwich and a glass of milk.

(Ya know, some dumbass folks just don't know when they're well off, and I be one of 'em.)
