Weblog 218
April 11, 2010~ 12:00am
Chalk up this past week as one loooooooong blur. I'm not sure what sort of a bug I've caught, but it's had me on the mat the better part of all last week.

The world pretty much looks just like that to me, like when you turn your head too fast and the edges of things smear into one another. Wooooooooozy. I stayed home Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday-- and only made part of the day on Monday and Friday. I just wanted to crawl up in bed and sleep. No appetite whatsover.
To top it off, my image host for my 'No Directions' blog has been down since Thursday, and that's depressing to me. The site itself says that they're undergoing 'maintenance and upgrades', but I fear the worst. I think it's gone. It was an easy to use, terrific little site with no bandwidth limits... and now I'm faced with uploading everything somewhere else......and I simply don't have the energy for it.
Tonight I've just been poking around at a vintage postcard site and came across these WEIRD doll postcards. I just love 'em! For instance (and maybe it's just my floatiness and still being sick) but how in the heck can you make a KEWPIE DOLL look so sinister? LOL!!!

GLEEFULLY EVIL! That put a grin on my face. How strange. Here's another one.....

(actually, in that one, the doll is the one who looks scared of the lady. LOL!!) But come to think of it, so many things have looked just that strange to me this week. Things stream through a not 'up-to-par' brain- allergies or pathogens or something that's been working on me. It's like I've stepped into the One Step Beyond TV show.
That's about it for me right now. My head is full of cotton. I may as well start tinkering in the other blog and uploading at least the lastest images to a new host site (all the while keeping my fingers crossed that the old one will miraculously pop back up.) I doubt it though. Been around this track before, and it's arduous. Doesn't matter if you pay the host site or not, they're always 'reseller' sites passing hand to hand, the material wiped clean when some new guy buys the servers. Just have to dig in and start slow.
Gonna take my bag of cheese puffed corn and my new paperback novel and head upstairs. (The cheese puffed corn is the only thing that's sounded good to me in a week, so maybe I'm getting better.) I hope so. No more fever dreams. No more weird dolls. LOL!!

More along the lines of whimsy and wonder, check out this terrific site by artist/photographer Lewis Koch, where he displays images from his career that are combinations of words and objects that take on haunting, dreamlike meanings for the viewer. I got lost in Touchless Automatic Wonder. Just click the forward arrow on the bottom of the screen for a delightful montage of black and white, evocative pictures.

Went to see my mother though not down to the dining hall to share dinner. (Thought that would be 'pushing it'-- my voice still sounding froggy, with the threat of a coughing fit at a table of near 90 year olds whose immune systems are 'iffy' to begin with) -but it did BOTH of us good to be together. Actually, my voice sounds better than it did yesterday, the coughing is less, and I feel more alert- not as much gauze draped over everything...

it's gonna take small baby steps... and I still have a way to go till I'm feeling myself again... but today is the first day I feel any real improvement.
The air smelled good. I noticed all the white blossoms on the trees.... paid attention to crow calls and birds singing out to one another, enjoyed the sunshine, so yes....things are looking up. One step at a time.

Feeling MUCH better. I visited my mother yesterday after work, came home and didn't even turn the lights on downstairs, but trooped right off to bed and slept 9 hours without waking, and woke up feeling great.
This is SUCH a pretty time of year! Even inside, even at work, I am treated daily to the phenomenon of my bosses' orchid. She snapped a picture of it with her cell phone, and I just have to share it.

WONDROUS!! (Keep in mind, this thing's been blooming like that since November... and you can see the tiny nubs of new buds right across the stem on top. It's grows like CRAZY!) -and she started it from- well, what can only be called a 'stick' someone was throwing away because it wouldn't grow.
I think all things - all of us - just need to find the right soil, the right hands, the proper climate to bring out what's best in us -maybe there all the time- simply sleeping. I hope springtime is doing some of that for you...
I know it's the best tonic in the world for yours truly, and I'm grateful.

Need some space all for you? This magnificent SHED SITE makes me feel very peaceful.

Click on that cute hutch, and it'll take you to a site called "SHEDWORKING"-- which illustrates how creative and colorful one can be about building a work space for yourself. A place apart. Economically.....boldly......a with panache. Ah............bliss.
