The LUSTY month of May (according to Lerner and Loewe's 'Camelot', anyway. It certainly is WARM, that's for sure...it was in the 80's this past weekend!) Between Thursday morning and Friday after work, we had a fifty degree change of temperature here in Pittsburgh. I went from having the furnace running and scraping the car on Thursday morning, to trying to shuck myself like an ear of corn by Friday afternoon. LOL!!

Oh, and Saturday I bought some new flowers for Mr. B's grave in the back yard.

Aren't they wonderful? It's a succulent related to the jade plant, called a kalanchoe- (pronounced 'KALan-cooey'...lol. I had no idea. Had to go to Webster's online and play the little audio file.)

His grave looks pretty again-- with the stone sculpture of the white cat sitting there looking very Egyptian in front of it.

The little fleurette's I purchased right after we had the first warmer week earlier this spring were decimated in the frequent frosts...just a pot of brown sticks sat out there. I kill everything I plant or try to nurture. It's a wonder my two kids didn't turn into skeletons sitting in their highchairs....I'm that black-thumbed. Hopefully, those lovely bright salmon/orange kalanchoes will fare better than the last pot-- I sure hope so.

And say, what do you think of electronic books? The 'Kindle' and the Ipad and such? I believe GOOGLE is making a run for this new revenue stream. At first they simply tried to steal all books and put them online. For free...

but I believe it's finally dawned on them that selling their ads on every freaking page was not going to do it for them forever-- and hey! if OTHER folks are sellin' the E-books --why not them? (Whatever happens... I'm sure they'll block others and battle it out and kick and claw their way into a "read-for-fee" that other applications are turning into gold for themselves.) My love/hate relationship with Google is an ever-flaring thing. Truth is, when anything gets too big or uses every tactic to make a buck and corner markets-- it bothers me. A lot.

Besides, I hate the things. Give me a solid, paper book any day of the week. I like to hold them. I like to turn pages and use bookmarks. I like to find them laying there beside me in the morning as I think back over the last bit of story I read before closing my eyes.

Books are friends- and they have weight and substance...they have character. E-books are......air. 'Nuff said.

One thing I want to share with you are these pictures of a good-natured, affectionate romp between a cat... and a deer. My sweetie sent them along to me via email, and I fell in love with these guys. First the cat is the recipient of curious deer kisses....

then Mr. Cat decides to show his affections

...much more demonstratively, till at last there is nothing to be done

but give into the strange attraction and just flat out kiss eachother up and down! LOL!! What cuties they are! That lifted my heart about a foot out of my chest and let it sing for a while.

NOW.....(since I've been 'critter happy', and I get that way every spring) -HERE'S a species I'll bet you didn't even know existed- as pets. Here's ZOOMER, an adorable HAIRLESS RAT, who is loved to pieces by his very proud owner, who's owned a number of these curious, comical, and really very sweet little guys over the years.

(Just LOOK at the expression in his eyes...makes me laugh out loud. They are positively canny- and the HUMAN HANDS!!) To get more of a peek into Zoomer and his bygone friends, please pay a visit to Hairless Monkeys for more pictures of Zoomer, et al. They're strange little characters and have the wondrous ability to make me laugh-- (and long to touch their 'suede-y' little bodies.!) LIVE LONG AND PROSPER, Zoomer.

You're a sweet little thing- and your owner is very proud of you. (He even shows fond photos of the guys he's loved before you.) You're now a FAMOUS.... hairless wonder...who'd a thunk it?

Every living creature has its charms. I do believe that. And it makes me happy.

i FORGOT TO POST MY MOON PICTURES! Late last week was the full moon.....and as I stepped outside to go to work in the early, early, still dark dawn, I was brought up short as I stood on the porch, about to turn the key in the lock, and GASPED at the prettiest BIG full moon I'd ever seen.

That shimmering patch had moved by the time I stepped back in my house and grabbed the camera. When I first looked at it, that WHOLE RECTANGULAR patch of moody cloud was luminescent and GLOWING... with Old Man Moon smack dab in the center! It was still lovely- and oh my goodness, BIG! Here it is, the focus a bit closer.

The air was crisp with frost, the birds cranking up their morning chorus, and there I stood with Mr. Moon, my breath caught in my throat.

Such things should be remembered. I'm so glad I took those pictures.
