I have to say..... this has been a 'ho hum' week. One day of work slid into the next, heat... more heat, fitful nights of broken sleep and so-so days, with nothing on the horizon to perk me up.

These are indeed the 'dog days' of summer, where everything sort of blurs at the edges and the only constants are being forever uncomforably warm and sticky, as well as the sameness of each day,with one as wearying as the next.

The one BRIGHT SPOT was a picture sent by daughter Holly of Kay GRINNING LIKE CRAZY, proudly showing off her front gums, having lost her second front tooth.

LOL!!! I LOVED seeing that. She's been worrying at that thing forever... trying to coax it out, anxious to collect the tooth fairy's payment. It's HAPPENED AT LAST. {{{{{grin}}}}}}

You'll recall that last weekend we attended her 7th birthday party cook-out. Well since then, each and every MALE at that party has been sick as dogs.....

it's the weirdest thing! All the ladies remain hale and hearty, but each male (including, I fear, little Bill, who's only today begun to experience 'the runs' but on a smaller scale) --had dysentery, fever, belly cramps and general yuckiness. Wayne has been sick all week, each day a fever and no appetite. Everything he eats passes right through. The same with Gary, who lost 8 LBS this past week, and Bill's grandad, my ex-husband Frank, racked up TWO TRIPS to the E.R. for his illness. What the heck???? We all ATE the same things (which WERE delicious) but only the GUYS came down with something. How strange. If it had been the food, EVERYONE would have gotten sick.

(And little did I know that looming on the horizon this week, would be my first accident in the new car.) Oh, nothing serious, I can't even SEE where my rear bumper was hit-- but backing out of the crowded parking lot at mum's personal care home on Thursday, I was out of my space and three-quarters of the way into straightening my car when WHACK! --another car, also backing out catty-cornered and behind, made an ABRUPT, thwacking connection.

I put my car in park and got out and could see no damage whatsoever. A slight, slight 'buffing' on the rear bumper that was hardly noticeable. The gentleman driving the other car thought we'd just agree 'no harm done' and be on our way, until I looked at HIS car.

That's what his passenger side rear bumper corner looked like. "Was that dent in your car before?" I asked. "Oh........ah.......no," he said, so we exchanged information. When I got home I knelt down to inspect my own bumper and saw a piece of black plastic hanging down. I reached over and pulled it off. It looks like the side piece of some sort of plastic support that connects the bumper to the car. My 2012 Focus is not quite a year old.... and fearing there may be more structural damage not visible by just looking at the outside, I called my insurance company to report it.

Now I have to take the danged thing to a garage for damage appraisal on Monday after work. Always something, right?

At least the older man involved in the accident was very calm and considerate, so thank God it wasn't some hot-headed screamer INSISTING it was MY FAULT-- when clearly, this was a low-impact, true 'accident' --and probably a 'no fault' event. I believe both of us were probably in eachother's blind spot as we both backed out.

What this week will hold is anybody's guess, but I'll be filling in at work for three days for a co-worker on vacation, so that means double-duty, and I know I'll be talking to an auto claims adjuster ... and who knows what else is waiting 'round the next corner. Ah.... August. My LEAST FAVORITE month. LOL!!! (It's proving to be one crappy thing after another... (no pun intended.) I'll just sit and wait for the next shoe to drop.

Something tells me there's more misery this month hiding around the bend. I'll just sit and wait, head in hand, tempting fate......

and waiting.

I got into work 20 minutes early and left 20 minutes before my usual quittin' time. I had an appointment with Centerline Collision to appraise damage to my 2012 Focus. The fella was SOOOOOOOO nice. Joe got down on the ground, took a flashlight and lit up the underside of my back bumper, pushed and felt and pushed and felt..... and concluded

THERE WAS NO STRUCTURAL DAMAGE whatsoever- and miniscule cosmetic damage -not enough for an untrained eye to even notice. He said it was up to me, but nothing really needed to be done in terms of repairs. I AM 'MR. HAPPY'!!! {{{{{{{grin}}}}}}}}}

That's what I was hoping but I wanted to be sure, and it's such a relief. No claim, no deductible spent, and I still maintain my 'first accident forgiveness' on my policy.

On top of that, Monday's in....and a sales rep showed up at work this morning with a HOT BREAKFAST- (I mean a 'scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage, toast and fried potatoes' kind of a breakfast!) and I'm in a GOOD MOOD, and husband Wayne is FINALLY feeling himself again. Aaaaaaannnnd.... the weather is gorgeous. Damn near perfect. (How was YOUR Monday???)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE miniatures! Today (which was a GOOD one, eveb though I was as busy as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs).....today I found a MARVELOUS link to not only miniatures, but DOLLHOUSES! Not JUST dollhouses, but......

a BUTCHSHOP dollhouse! Circa 1900.

Click on that charming picture to be taken to a collectors site where you'll find not only that array of vintage dollhouses, but links to toy museums and other sundry wonders. I love to browse stuff like that. The Carnegie Museum of Pittsburgh has a whole section of lit-up, ornate rooms from the Frick family's doll house mansion that's set right into the wall... with a wooden, step-up peering platform where you can walk all around and glimpse the decor inside each room in the mansion. It's one of my favorite things to see. Tiny REAL SILVER tea services, candelabras, working lights, Oriental rugs..... man o man, that was my idea of HEAVEN when I was a little girl!
